This page describes the ins and outs of lanning with the StreetGeek crew. It covers the who, what, when, why, how, and maybe. If you cannot find an answer on this page to your question, please contact us via email or on Social Media.
WHAT IS A LAN PARTY?
A party where people bring their own computers, hook them up, and game all night long with each other. Traditionally, the LAN Party started off as a PC only exclusive event, but has now evolved to include console gaming as well as elements of board games and tabletop gaming.
What makes StreetGeek LAN Parties unique is that we focus on the more social, non-competitive side of video gaming
WHY IS THERE A EVENT LOCK IN?
In order to meet our hiring requirements and duty of care to attendee’s under the age of 18, we have an event lock in between midnight and 6 AM. During this time, anyone who leaves will not be re-admitted to the event until the lock in is over and under 18 attendee’s attempting to leave during this time will need to make sure they have transport safely home before leaving.
WHAT SORT OF PEOPLE ATTEND STREETGEEK X?
The majority of StreetGeek X attendees are aged between 15 and 30. A typical member is a non-competitive gamer (for the most part), playing casually in a variety of games, and spending around 4 hours per week gaming.
WHEN DOES STREETGEEK X 2017 START AND FINISH?
StreetGeek X 2017 starts at 10:00 AM Saturday 25th of November and runs until 7:00 PM on Sunday 26th of November. Ticket sales will start from 9:30 AM. Please note that no attendee’s will be allowed entrance into the gaming areas until 10:00 AM on the Saturday due to Work Health & Safety requirements.
ARE THERE ID REQUIREMENTS OR AN AGE LIMIT TO ENTER THE EVENT?
StreetGeek is an all ages friendly event, but we also recognize the need for safety and protection of minors. If you are under the age of 18 and want to be at the event unsupervised, we require your parent & guardian to have filled in, signed and handed in a consent form at the ticket registration and sign in desk when you arrive. Since people under the age of 18 will be getting free entry thanks to the support of the City of Unley, StreetGeek staff reserve the right to request Proof of Age to prove you are under the age of 18.
WHAT ARE MY TRANSPORT/PARKING OPTIONS GETTING TO THE EVENT?
If you are coming by vehicle, there is on site parking available if you enter via Rosa Street or Florence Street. There is limited on site parking, but there is available street parking as well if the car park is full. If you are planning on coming by public transport, the Goodwood Community Centre is a short walk from the Tram stop at Goodwood Road (Stop 3) or a 10 minute walk from the Goodwood Train Station. Bus services are also an option, with the closest stop being Bus Stop 4 on Goodwood Road on both the West Side or East Side
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
StreetGeek will provide the majority of the infrastructure required, such as tables, chairs, power runs and networking equipment. However, if you are planning on gaming in the PC area, StreetGeek is a Bring Your Own PC (BYOPC) event so you will need to bring the following:
- 5m or longer Cat5e or Cat6 network cable.
- Computer, laptop or Console
- Power board (surge protected is recommended)
- Power cables for your computer and monitor
- VGA, DVI or HDMI cable
- Keyboard and mouse
- Headphones (Speakers are not permitted in the main PC area)
If you are planning on gaming in the Console/Social area, there is a large amount of Consoles and televisions that StreetGeek provides. However, you may wish to bring any of the following:
- Televisions (We have a handful of TVs for you to use, but bring your own if you can!)
- Speakers (Speakers are permitted only in the social/console area)
- Board games
The following are also recommended for all attendees:
- Weather appropriate clothing (it can get cold in winter and hot in summer in the venue)
- Sleeping gear
- Toiletries (remember to bring deodorant!)
- Cash for entry fee and for snacks & drinks on the day
Please do not bring any drugs or alcohol with you to the event, as StreetGeek LAN Parties are drug free zones and are dry events. If you also have various power sucking equipment such as microwaves, toasters, kettles or heaters, please leave these at home as they play havoc on our power infrastructure. Most of these can be accessed at the event, just ask one of the members of the friendly StreetGeek staff.
I’VE ALREADY BOUGHT A TICKET AND DON’T WANT TO COME ANYMORE, CAN I GET A REFUND?
